Shock It!

Yahweh seems to talk to me more through everyday life and living than through theology books. Most of the revelation that I have received as an apostle of Christ comes as I navigate this personal odyssey called life. Kingdom revelation does not have to be complex or hard to come by, just open your eyes and ears as you walk out your purpose and there are clues everywhere.

It was always a dream of ours to one day have a pool. As a child, nothing captivated my attention or excited me more than the possibility of going swimming. I was no respecter of swimming environments either: swimming pool, pond, lake, river, overly large mud puddle. As a child, however, I never gave much thought to what it took to maintain a pool.

The other day, on my way to the pool store, I realized that I was a slave to someone else's knowledge of what I owned and was responsible for. I was allowed to test the water on a frequent basis, but if the chemistry of the pool was out of whack, off to the pool store with a water sample I must go. Finally, I came to the conclusion, that my slavery to the store was getting expensive, time consuming, and frustrating. So I decided to do something about it.

As in most cases, if you can understand how something works as a whole, when individual parts break down you can usually quickly and easily prescribe a solution by looking at the issue from a wider parameter. Every doctor, no matter how specialized, must first study the entire body before moving into a narrower field of medicine.

I see this a lot in the “church” world. There seems to be a few who know more about life than the rest, and most people are content just seeking a solution, much like a doctor's consultation, when something goes wrong.

The other day while swimming in our pool, I noticed some green “stuff” on the pool stairs. I thought that was unusual and just went and got a scrubber and scrubbed it off – job done. The next day we left to go out-of-town and Pastor David texted me to inform me that I didn't have a pool any longer, it was now a pond – totally green. At that point, I thought to myself, “but I've done everything that the pool store has told me to do.” Sound familiar? Upon further reflection, I remembered that it had rained a lot and that I had drained the pool several times of excess water which ultimately reduced its salt content. I had turned up the chlorinator, but without salt there was nothing to turn into chlorine. Several hot days ensued and our pool had become one giant science experiment. Several hundred dollars of chemicals later, my pool is now clear again. But because I'm smarter than the average bear I've decided to understand the cause and effect relationship of pool maintenance. Come to find out that it's not that complicated.

The same is true for the Kingdom, it's just not that complicated. But most people have blindly developed a habit of listening to others explain how they maintain their “pool” or go to the professionals and get a fix. It was never supposed to be that way. Yahshua came to give us life and that life more abundantly. He accomplished this by making available the Holy Spirit who knows your “pool” inside and out. You are one-of-a-kind! Yes, there are Kingdom principles that govern us all, but there are also small nuances of unique and individual elements that make us who we are.

Well, if praying in the Spirit is the apostolic response to most situations – and it emphatically is – then adding “shock” (chlorine) to your pool is the most common response from the pool store. So, if you're having issues with your pool – shock it! If you're having issues with life – pray much in the Spirit and receive the mind of Yahweh on the matter.

Blessings,

Apostle Todd
